Lima Is an Incredible City
There was a time that Lima was a very rundown city, and even a dangerous one but those days were long ago. Lima has spent the past couple of decades building a solid foundation that has made it a bedrock of the Peruvian economy instead of a city held hostage by the country’s economic up and downs. The explosion of Ceviche’s popularity has brought the culinary scene to world wide attention, the Huaca Pucllana ruins are incredibly impressive, and there is a wide array of museums, parks, and interesting markets to visit. Lima is now the picture of a thriving city.
Machu Picchu Is Unmatched
Who doesn’t know about Machu Picchu? This ancient city is one of the most visited sites in all of South America and for good reasons. If the remarkable hiking trails are a bit too challenging, there’s a railway line that leads you up there, as well.
Visit the Amazon Regions
Many people don’t realize how large the Amazon basin is, and it reaches well outside of Brazil. In fact, there are three Amazon regions in Peru. The Riverine National Parks are known for the natural views, the Chachapoyas-Gocta-Kuelap area also features waterfalls, ruins, and museums, and then for the very adventurous there’s Tambopata and its famous boat trips. You can see Peruvian history and the Amazon river.
Cuzco’s Living, Breathing Ancient History
The oldest continuously inhabited city in all of the Americas, Cuzco is a cultural melting pot of living history. Blending Incan, Pre-Columbian, Spanish, and modern culture, Cuzco is a wonderful city to visit that brings a lot to the table and is certainly worth a visit on your next Peruvian holiday.
Visit the Sacred Valley
Sitting in between Machu Picchu & Cuzco, The Sacred Valley offers wonderful views, a breath of history, and insight into an area that was considered the centre of the Incan world. It should definitely be added to any exploration of what the country of Peru has to offer visitors.
The Beaches Are Stunning
Most holiday-goers don’t think of beautiful white sand beaches when they think of Peru, but they have some of the best hidden gem beaches in the world. While the top of the Andes mountains are much more commonly known, the shores are tropical in nature and you’ll find plenty of districts and resorts catering to visitors looking to perfect their tan and show off their Seafolly swimwear while enjoying smooth and and crystal-clear waters. Just further proof that Peru offers visitors a bit of everything.
The Famed Nazca Lines
One of the great mysteries of the world – these amazing lines were somehow fully etched into the desert between 500 BC and AD 500. From the ground they’re not obvious at all – merely paths, but from the air they are clear glyphs designed to look like animals, birds, and even “The Astronaut”, the common nickname given to a strange looking man. These can only be properly viewed from the air, making them even more strange and mysterious, since at the latest they were completed 1400 years before the planes needed to view them.
These are just a few of the amazing reasons you should consider Peru for your next holiday.
